Metro Fire Responds to 2 Overnight Fires. 5 Victims Rescued as well as Several Animals.

Rancho Cordova, CA - 7:00pm Sacramento Metro Fire crews responded to the report of an apartment fire at 10556 Redburn Lane. When firefighters arrived they were met by residence of the apartment complex yelling to “save my babies.” Metro Fire crews saw that one apartment unit on the second story of a two story apartment was fully involved with fire, and fire extending to a second adjacent apartment unit. Fire Crews also found two adults on the balcony of the second unit. The two adults were unable to escape out the front door due to flames and heat blocking the stairwell. Metro Fire Crews extended a ladder and assisted the two adults from the balcony, while additional arriving crews began extinguishing the fire. It was later determined an additional three children were on the balcony and were dropped to waiting residence on the ground floor. In all 5 people were rescued from a growing fire. One adult was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation. Eleven people in four apartment units were displaced. The cause of the fire was determined to be a candle that was left unattended. Damage was estimated to be $200,000 by firefighters.

Sacramento, CA - 8:27pm Sacramento Metro Fire responded to the report of a house fire at the 900 block of La Sierra in the Arden area of Sacramento. Firefighters arrived and found a home with a bedroom well involved with fire. Metro Fire Crews quickly search the home finding and removing several animals, and extinguished the fire. Crews found two dogs and a cat deceased in the home. Firefighters initiated CPR to one of the dogs, and the cat. After 45 minutes of resuscitation efforts, the Cat was revived. Also saved from the home were a lizard and a small rabbit. Fire Investigators determined the cause to be accidental, with no other reports of injury. Damages was estimated to be $100,000.
