Sacramento Metro Fire Responds to Morning House Fire

Rio Linda Ca.- 8:07am Metro Firefighters responded to the report of a house fire on the 6300 block of 26th St. On arrival, firefighters encountered thick floor to ceiling smoke and flames from the front room of the home. Firefighters made entry into the home and found a fire in the living-room area. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, using 20 firefighters. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental. The fire appeared to have started in the area of the fireplace, possibly due to combustibles being stored in the immediate area of the fire place opening. No one was home at the time of the fire, and no firefighter injuries were reported.

Metro Fire would like to remind citizens that the use of fireplaces requires a significant level of care and forethought. Be vigilant with cleaning and inspection of your fireplace, and make certain before you discard your ashes they are cold. The deeper the ash bed, the longer it takes to cool. If you dump ashes into your trash container, use caution and don't store the trash container next to your house or in your garage.
