Fire in Duplex Causes Major Damage, Displaces Two Adults

Sacramento County, CA – Just before 8:00 p.m., Metro Fire crews were dispatched to the 2400 block of Loma Vista Drive in the Arden area for a report of a structure fire. First arriving crews reported heavy fire in a house, with roughly 50% involved, and immediately initiated fire attack. An adult male and female had self-evacuated when the fire started on one side of a duplex. Due to initial reports of a resident possibly in the other unit, firefighters immediately began a search, though nobody was found to be home.

Four engines, two trucks, one medic and two Battalion Chiefs were dispatched to the incident. Due to the heavy fire involvement on arrival and the possibility of trapped residents, two additional engines and one truck were requested. A total of 34 firefighters were dispatched to the fire.

Two adults were displaced by the fire; Red Cross was requested to assist them with temporary housing. Total damage is estimated at $110,000; no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. Fire Investigators were unable to rule out a clothes dryer in the garage as the cause of the fire.

The leading cause of home clothes dryer fires is a failure to clean them. A few simple tips can make all the difference: do not use your dryer without a lint filter, make sure the exhaust vent pipe is unrestricted, and always keep dryers in good working order. If you notice that it is taking longer than normal for your clothes to dry, clean lint out of the vent pipes or have a dryer lint removal service do it for you.
