Sacramento County, CA – at 11:30pm on April 20th, Metro Fire crews were dispatched for a house fire near the corner of Hurley Way and Morse Avenue in the Arden area. Initial calls to 911 reported the fire near Hurley Way and Watt Avenue, but crews were able to locate the correct location with minimal delay. First arriving crews found a single-story house on the 1300 block of Morse Avenue, with significant fire from the rear of the home.

Firefighters worked quickly to locate and control the fire. Additional crews on scene performed a search for occupants. A male, believed to be in his 30’s, was located and rescued from the house. The patient was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Two dogs were also located and removed safely from the structure. Fire crews completely extinguished the fire, containing damage to only the one residence. Two fire investigators responded to the scene and determined the fire was caused accidentally. The house was severely destroyed, with damage estimated at $100,000.

Our hearts go out to the family of the male who lost his life this morning. Please take a few extra steps to lower the risk of fire hurting your family or destroying your home: test your smoke alarms, keep space heaters at least three feet from anything combustible, use flameless candles when possible, and always dispose of your fireplace ashes in a metal container.
