Fire Camp Lets Kids be Firefighters for a Week

WHO: Join Metro Fire and our local kids to see what Fire Camp is all about.

WHAT: : Fire Camp is a week-long day camp put on by Metro Fire for local kids between 11 and 13 years of age. It provides them with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience today’s fire service, first-hand. The program is designed to instill self-confidence, teamwork and a basic understanding of the firefighting profession, in a fun and exciting atmosphere.

Campers are grouped in “strike teams” of eight campers, and each strike team is mentored by two Metro Firefighters. Campers learn valuable life safety skills, while discovering what it means to be a firefighter.

WHEN: : Because the campers will be moving from station to station, the best times to join us will be:
July 13th from 10am-noon
Metro Fire Station 21
7641 Greenback Lane, Citrus Heights
Ladder climbing, bucket brigade races, auto extrication demonstration, and more.
July 14th from 1pm-3pm
Roseville Training Center
2005 Hilltop Circle, Roseville
Campers will climb our 100 foot aerial ladder, put out a small fire with a fire extinguisher, and take a hoseline into a burn room to put out a fire.

CONTACT: Please let us know in advance if you will be sending a news crew. Media Point of Contact during Fire Camp will be: Captain Chris Vestal at 916-616-2434
