Dog Perishes in South Sacramento House Fire

Sacramento County, CA – Just after 10:00 this morning, a street sweeper turned onto Calla Way in South Sacramento, noticed smoke coming from a house, and quickly called 9-1-1. Metro Fire crews responding to the 8200 block of Calla Way found a working fire in the two-story home. They quickly initiated fire attack, ventilation, and searched for victims. Firefighters contained the fire to the first floor, though the entire home sustained smoke damage. One dog was able to escape from the fire, a second dog perished inside.

Fire investigators determined the fire started on the stove top in the kitchen and quickly spread to the first floor. Nobody was home at the time of the fire and no firefighters were injured. Total damage is estimated at $65,000.
