Metro Fire to Demonstrate Christmas Tree Fire Safety and Conduct Training Burn

Mather, CA. – On Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 9:00 am Metro Fire will conduct a multi-faceted event to demonstrate proper Christmas Tree fire safety and a structure burn for firefighter training. This will take place 8131 Antelope North Road in the community of Antelope.

A room in the structure will be setup to simulate that of a living or family room with a Christmas Tree and other household furniture. The demonstration will include placing of an ignition source near the tree to show how quickly the tree will ignite, spread to other objects, and cause a house fire. Opportunities to place cameras in the fire room will be available if requested.

Additionally, we would appreciate assistance in notifying those in the surrounding area of the training exercise. Community members in the area near Antelope North Road and Olive Avenue may see and smell smoke beginning at approximately 9:00 am lasting until approximately 1:00 pm. If anyone believes there is a fire at a different location we encourage them to report it to 911.

Metro Fire has coordinated this activity with the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) and ensured all necessary permits for demolition have been obtained by the property owner. This training and demonstration burn is subject to day of cancellation pending air quality.

Personnel from Metro Fire will be available for sound and interviews on site. Because of the timing and coordination required for ignition and camera placement we are requesting advance notification if you plan to attend. Please contact Captain Chris Vestal if you have any questions at (916) 859-4589, or plan to attend.
