Join Metro Fire During National Burn Awareness Week Events

North Highlands, CA – During National Burn Awareness Week (February 3 through February 9) the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire or the District) will seek to prevent burn injuries in our community and help raise funding for rehabilitation and treatment of all people affected by burns. Through partnerships with the Arizona Burn Foundation and the Fire Fighters Burn Institute (FFBI) we invite you to help us on behalf of all Sacramento Region community members.

On Wednesday morning at Hillsdale Elementary School in North Highlands, Metro Fire will be joined by Sacramento County Supervisor Sue Frost as we deliver the Milo & Moxie Safety. Partly funded by Sacramento County’s Transient Occupancy Tax grant program to the Sacramento Metro Public Safety Foundation, Metro Fire is delivering this program in partnership with the Arizona Burn Foundation to elementary schools throughout the District. This week over 100 children will receive the educational program, focusing on how to avoid burn injuries in the home, which includes an interactive presentation by Metro Fire personnel and materials to take home to share with their families.

From 8:30 am until 10:00 am opportunities to speak with Metro Fire personnel, Supervisor Frost, and Hillsdale Elementary School students and staff will be possible.

Thursday afternoon the FFBI Boot Drive once again commences at Sunrise Marketplace at the corner of Sunrise Blvd and Greenback Ln. and will last through approximately 5 pm on Sunday. We ask that you remind those who travel in the area to use caution for the safety of all the fire fighters who will be in the street from 9:00 am until 5:30 pm daily, accepting donations on behalf of the FFBI to fund treatment programs for all burn survivors in our community, not only firefighters.

At 9:00 am on Friday morning the media challenge takes place where local media personalities will compete to raise the most money in an hour. We hope that you will join us for this fun and competitive event.
